The Hermit Crab and His Shell

It has been quite some time since I have posted anything new on this blog. For that I apologize.  But there have been a lot of good things happening while I was away.

Aside from continuing to serve you all with Acupuncture and Functional Medicine services, I have been teaching Functional Blood Chemistry for the Five Branches University Doctorate of Traditional Chinese Medicine (DTCM) Program, designing Continuing Education Units for my colleagues in Functional Blood Chemistry, and continuing my own education as a life-long learner in the areas of Functional Medicine.  I also devoted a full year into the study of Functional Neurology which I am excited to be incorporating more into my Functional Medicine practice.

So, I have been growing a lot in many ways over the past few years.  And with growth tends to come change.  I like to think of myself as a humble little hermit crab. This little crab has enjoyed his shell for some time, felt safe there, and carried on with his business.  But the shell no longer seems to fit just quite right. It is time for a new shell.

Starting May 1st, 2023 I will be in a brand new location in Mission Valley.  I have been in my current clinic since 2007 in Banker’s Hill where I have rented out rooms to other medical practitioners.  But my interests have changed, and I now look forward to my own personal clinic.  A sanctuary of sorts for me and my patients. No distractions.  You have my full attention. And we will need it to get to the bottom of what concerns you.

Aside from location I am shedding my old business name of Laurel Acupuncture for a new brand.

Jim Chialtas, DACM, L.Ac., A Functional Approach.

Though my medical license is indeed in Acupuncture, and my Doctorate in Chinese Medicine, my focus has been in Functional Medicine. The title “Acupuncturist” just does not seem to fit anymore. The new name is a much more comfortable fit.

As I move forward, I fully intend to continue to practice Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine along with my Functional Medicine practice. They can go hand in hand quite well. But taking a functional approach clinically means I can work with my patient on an individual case by case scenario and weave multiple modalities into the approach. A functional approach does not work around protocols, or one point of view.  It works with what presents clinically.

So that is what I offer you.  My full attention, my many years of clinical experience and training, my continued commitment to increase my knowledge base, and my sincere intention to help however I can.

Having said that, I want to welcome you to my new practice.  I look forward to seeing you soon!
